Here at The Chicken Social we’re starting a new segment called Thursdays in the Mix highlighting talented artists every week residing in or from the Houston area, all those from the well-established to those just on the rise.
Over the years, I’ve noticed a serious under-representation of Houston singers, musicians, and people of the like for whatever reason and we felt the need to step in and help rectify that.
Now a young rapper right here in Houston that goes by John Ibe (@_Johnibe on Twitter) caught my attention recently, largely off the strength of his bars and the subtle but not-so-subtle wordplay. As much as I like trap rap, it’s refreshing to see somebody from this new era of “Soundcloud rappers” that tries to pay attention to the actual lyrics, and isn’t looking for a new word to rhyme with ‘codeine’. His rhymes are gritty, hit hard, and from what I’ve heard do justice to the beats he’s given. Ibe has already received quite a bit of attention online, but it remains to be seen when he will take it to the next level. For now, get a dose of Ibe with his latest visual, a collab with Trae Mitch called “Global.”
And while you’re at it, check out his latest collab project below:

Happy Thursday and Namaste.
